Prepared for the International Grenfell Association
The Cook's Harbour Recreation Committee undertook a Playground Renovation project
during the year 2000. The project involved landscaping, removing and replacing equipment, and constructing a
fence. To complete the project the recreation committee pursued various organizations for funding
(refer to Appendix A).
The project was completed in three phases. The phases are as follows:
Phase 1: Area Renovations
To begin the renovation phase student workers employed on a summer student project cleaned up the area.
The student workers along with volunteers from the community removed the existing equipment and fencing. Once this
was completed the recreation committee purchased backfill which was distributed over the area by student workers.
Phase 2: Equipment Installation
The next phase of the project involved the installation of playground equipment. To accomplish this the recreation
committee requested the help of volunteers from the community. The committee received help from a number of
volunteers who began working to accomplish this phase of the project. The volunteers came back to the
recreation committee and explained the necessary procedures for installing the equipment and the person power
needed for such an endeavor. Based upon the information presented to the recreation committee it was decided
to approach the Town Council for assistance. The Town Council aided with this phase of the project by hiring
four workers to assist with the assembly and erection of the equipment. These workers, along with the volunteers,
took approximately three weeks to complete this phase of the project.
Phase 3: Fencing
The final phase of the project involved constructing a fence around the playground boundaries. Again, the Town Council
workers and the community volunteers were active in completing this phase of the project.
As you can determine from the enclosed pictures (refer to Appendix B) the Cook's Harbour Recreation Committee has achieved its main aim
and objective. The playground is now a safe and fun environment for the children of the community to play.
